TIP FOR PARENTS... If a doctor or other "professional" tells you there is little you can do to recover an autistic child, get a new doctor! Parents are helping their children "come back" every day! There are many many coping mechanisms that will help your child. Don't give up on your child... get rid of that doctor and find one who'll help you! :o) Note: Hospitals only need to keep records for a certain number of years and then, they can destroy them... so, whether or not you choose to do anything with these records, you should at least get copies of them prior to their being destroyed! You should specifically list what you want. It took me close to 4 months to get my child's complete records because "things were always missing", even though they had been requested. Therefore, you will want to confirm you have received everything you asked for! Specifically, consider requesting IN WRITING, via certified mail: 1. Infant blood work taken at time of birth 2. All medical records related to your child's stay while at the hospital, including all medical staff observations, any test results, etc. 3. All vaccination records, including manufacturers and lot numbers (to compare against known "hot lots" where incidence of autism is higher for specific lot numbers). 4. All other medical records. |
